As soon as the mechanic finished with the Bee, I hurried up to the border of B&H. The crossing didn’t take too long but it was totally dark when I finally arrived to the guesthouse. And woke up next morning to a mysterious foggy view of the the river right outside of my apartment. And then it rained. Perfect excuse to chill for a day. Or even two!
After two foggy rainy days in Glavica, it was time to move on. Stopped at the Blihe waterfall for a short hike and a photo, and made it to Banja Luka for one night to quickly check out the city (which turned out to be not very exciting).
But this quick ride took me from fog & rain to sunshine & summer! From mysterious river to hot springs and summer vibes in Banja Luka! Just about 200km but what a change!
Enjoy the sunshine (finally!) at the natural thermal pools. And it made the whole visit to Banja Luka absolutely worth it!
The summer is officially here! I am officially happy! (I might start complaining about it being too hot very soon, but right now I just love not having to wear 15 layers of clothes anymore!)
From Banja Luka I took the canyon road down south (although I had to go to the east) to visit the Krupa waterfalls and then tried to find a shortcut to another road going in the right direction (towards east) but the two-three roads I tried were dead ends, so I turned around and went back to the canyon road.
And although the trip took me much longer than expected, I didn’t regret it at all!
The road follows the Vrbas river with some awesome views, sweet turns and a few tunnels!
The view of the Jajce old town looked gorgeous, wish I could go for a walk around but I had to hurry up, as it was still a long way to go and just about three hours until sunset.
Had a few minutes of a pretty intense rain followed by the brightest sun. Treated my baby bee to Gasoline 98, and he buzzed very happily all the way into the sunset and to our new home in Tuzla. Not the most direct but very fun road and an amazing ride!
If I knew that I’d find this awesome canyon road that would take me almost all the way to Sarajevo, I would’ve probably skipped Tuzla.
But luckily I didn’t know that! Not because Tuzla as such is an outstanding town (although their byrek is the best I’ve ever tried) but because there I got to meet an amazing family, limitless Bosnian hospitality and genuine kindness.
When people ask me why I like Balkans so much – that’s why! Because of the people here! Also because of the beautiful nature and delicious food of course, but that’s (believe it or not!) secondary 💛
Next morning I said goodbye to my host family, thanked them for all the kindness and set off towards Višegrad, my last destination before crossing the border to Serbia.
It was such a lovely road across endless green hills, with cute houses in the middle of nowhere, with cows on both sides of the road. But for some reason, I really can’t explain why, I wasn’t enjoying the ride.
Definitely not the way I should’ve been enjoying it considering how beautiful the surrounding landscapes were.
And then I got to a canyon road! Yes! Thank you! I finally woke up and got super excited about the road, the curves, the rocks, the tunnels (at least 100 of them seriously!), the gorgeous Drina river, and the beautiful sunset.
The cherry on the cake was seeing the Višegrad bridge, the famous Mehmed Paša Sokolovic bridge, that I had on my “To see” list for a while. Such a wonderful rider after all!
Spent the last night in Višegrad and took a quick tour around the town in the morning. A mandatory stroll across the Mehmed Paša Sokolovic bridge and a breakfast cevapi.
And set off towards Serbia – just an hour of super scenic canyon road from Višegrad to Kremna, the border crossing was quick and easy.
Serbia, here we come!
