Slovenia has been on my bucket list for years. One of the smallest countries in Europe, yet it has everything from proper mountains to the sea, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, you name it!
I knew it was a paradise for hikers.
I didn’t know it was a paradise for riders as well!
The weather forecast didn’t look so good but I was hoping to get some warm sunny hours to at least see the Bled lake. And otherwise some days of rest wouldn’t hurt.
Luckily it rained mostly during the nights/mornings.
What about resting? Nothing! I can’t rest when there’s so much beauty around! Exploration mode on!
Those views! The greenest grass you’ve ever seen with the white mountain tops on the background. The fluffy cotton clouds crawling up and down the hills. The reflections in the lakes. The cute city of Liubliana.
And the people! So kind, so warm, so 💛
🏞️ Triglav national park.
I was hoping for at least one warm sunny day to explore it. I had flagged so many places around it as “must see” and I didn’t want to rush through them.
To my surprise, the first place on my route – the Martuljek Lower Waterfall, was not accessible by motorbike (although Google maps said it was). Since it wasn’t my top priority, I decided to skip it.
Next stop – Lake Jasna, quite touristy but really really beautiful, with water so clear that I was tempted to try drinking it (I didn’t do it though). The white mountain tops in the background were calling, so after a short walk around the lake I headed towards the Vršič pass.
Julian Alps, no words needed 😍 Curves and views!
I rode along the Soča river, and I couldn’t resist taking some time to explore the gorge and the gaze at the multiple waterfalls and the fantastic turquoise river running between weirdly shaped rocks. Pure magic!
A quick mandatory ride through the Devil’s Bridge, aka Hudičev Most (it seems like I’ve started collecting devil’s bridges throughout the roadtrip). This one was quite different than all I had seen before! Squeezed between two gigantic rock walls, 60 meters above the Tolminka river – 💯 breathtaking experience, including the very narrow river which leads to it.
Another snowy mountain pass, as my GoPro ran out of both memory and battery at the same time.
I made it to Lake Bohinj for the sunset, watched the sun go down and decided to come back next morning to with more time and check out the Savica Waterfall.
The road to Savica Waterfall is really beautiful, it curves along the lake through a light green forest, full of sunshine and happiness. But as I arrived to the waterfall parking, I saw a lot of people and decided not to participate in this mass hiking, and instead go and spend some time at Lake Bled.
Lake Bled 💛
If this is not magic then what is?
I can’t explain what makes this lake so special.
Is it the island in the middle of it? Is it the castle? Is it the color of the water? Is it the moment when the wind calms down and the water becomes one big mirror?
What is it? It’s one of those things that I can’t explain, I just feel it.
One lake. One sunset. One love.
